Installation of Rope Cutters

Function of Rope-cutter

The rope-cutter is placed at the base of the propeller to protect it from engagement of ropes and nets during rotation. It consists of rotating blades that move along with the propeller and cuts the objects entangled around the propeller.

Rope-cutter replacement

For all vessels, rope guards are the protection barrier for propeller shafts shielding them against line entanglement and damage on the shaft seal system. Typically rope guards are attached by means of welding or bolted with locking wires in place.

The quality of the results offered even in the most specialized technical underwater work is safeguarded as our divers possess excellent technical knowledge, experience, and a high sense of professionalism. The underwater rope-cutter replacement must be carried out in such a way that it avoids any serious damage to the ship’s propeller shaft. An added advantage is that the process also shreds weed and netting.

We offer customized solutions for maintenance of rope guards, which include the following components:

  • Installation of rope guards (underwater welding operations)
  • In water sealing of rope guards for internal stern tube seal replacements
  • Removal of entangled ropes and nets
  • Installation or replacement of rope guard net cutters (knives) made of steel, stainless steel, or aluminium

Installation

  • Net or line cutting knives fixed on to the rope guard or propeller
  • Manufactured from high grade (316) Stainless Steel or as per the Client’s requirements.
  • The net cutter knives are circular bolted or welded on to the rope guard or propeller.

Advantages

Fishing lines or nets, which may rotate with the propeller, will be cut before they can enter the space between aft seal and rope guard
